Honouring the women behind Water and Sanitation’s technical services

It takes women of all skillsets to keep the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s Engineering and Asset Management team at Killarney depot running.
To show appreciation for 20 women working at the depot as operational and admin support, artisans, technicians, handywomen and cleaners, their male counterparts ensured that their colleagues could celebrate Women's Month together.
Killarney depot responds to service requests in Milnerton, Table View, Plattekloof, Tygerberg and even as far as Atlantis.
Dressed in denim, white and colourful headscarves, it was a festive afternoon filled with music and dance. The programme included motivational speeches focusing on personal resilience, being unapologetically yourself, women empowerment and inclusivity.
'As one of the bigger service delivery directorates within the City, 31% of Water and Sanitation staff are women. They often go beyond the call of duty and it is important that we recognise our hardworking mothers and sisters during Women's Month. It is inspiring to see how much they persevere in a relatively male-dominated industry, to make their mark and keep our City working,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
